Most deserts are located 15-25 degrees north and south of the equator, near the Tropic of Capricorn and Tropic of cancer. They cover approx. 20% of the world's total land and around 2 million people live in a desert. One of the world's largest deserts is the Sahara. It is located in North Africa and is 2,500,000 square miles.
There are 18 major deserts all around the world. Here are some examples:
· The Sahara= A hot desert found Northern Africa
· Great Sandy= the main desert in Australia, found in the West of Australia
· Namib Desert= Large desert found at the bottom of Africa.
· Gobi= A cold desert found in Asia
· Atacama Desert= One of the driest deserts found in South America
· Sonoran Desert= Full of Cacti and found in North America
There is at least one desert in each continent, so they are
spread out all around the world.
